In our last post Internet Work from Home-Promoting your website(1) we looked at 5 basic steps you need to take.  These were

Step 1 :find affiliate products

Step 2 :get keywords

Step 3 :find out your SEO competition.

Step 4: Get domain and hosting for your website

Step 5: do Search Engine Optimization on your website (get trained first)

The training is very important.  I have found, whether it was my Christian home based business, or internet marketing affiliate business or my work in Direct Sales companies I have gone furthest when I had good training and good trainers.

Now you should have your domain registered, have done your initial keyword research and got your hosting sorted out.

Step 6: Make sure your URL is indexed successfully.

Indexing means that the Major Search Engines can find you, which is obviously very important.  You should follow a series of basic checks to make sure that there a minimum of errors on your site.  You may not be able to see any errors, but the “spiders” which traverse your site periodically will read the code in the background and will not like lots of errors-it will lead to a lower ranking for your site and make you practically invisible to searchers who after all are the ones you want to find you online.

This is another reason it behoves you to join a good Internet Marketing Affiliate program (this is a training program) to guide you step by step as you set up your site.  When you’ve ironed out the creases, as best as you are able, them you can submit your domain name or url to the “Big 3″ site engines-just click on the link or image links below if you are ready to do that (the url will be something like this: http://mydomainname.com):

Tips to getting your site indexed more quickly

  1. Put a Sitemap inMake sure the pages which are not your main page (“sub pages”)  can be easily accessed by the Search engine ants. Create a sitemaps page that links to all pages of your website and place a link to it from the homepage. If you have a big site, consider breaking it up into several parts and keep the total links number below 100 per page. Link from your homepage to deep pages to get them and the sites around them crawled faster.  If using WordPress they have a Sitemaps plugin, which is handy in this Web positioning process .
  2. No session IDsRemove all session IDs.  The spiders generally speaking will not index pages with these because they will assume these are different pages with identical content.
  3. Try not to use “variables” in the URL
  4. Variables will often be indexed  more slowly, often achieving no PR (PageRank).   A suggestion is to use Apache’s mod_rewrite feature to change your dynamic pages into static pages.  You can then use a  301 redirect to get the old pages redirecting to the new. Note however that if you do that for your main website, the search engines will take a while to visit the new static pages.
  5. Link-Link-Link.
  6. Inbound (incoming) links are vitally essential to winning in the SEO stakes these days.   Try and get links to your website from quality, relevant  websites. The higher your Page Rank goes up, the faster your website will be crawled by the web ants.  Make sure not just the home page is linked to,  but also the deeper-in pages. You need to ensure the web crawlers can crawl to where they need to crawl to, from different starting points

Now that you have that all set up hopefully we are ready to put ADVERTS in and make some money. I expect,if you are like me, you are still grappling with some of the terms I used in this post and are beginning to see the light but need a Search Engine optimization for Dummies course to help you get started.
